Why Diktuon.net is not googleable, and some related philosophy about word of mouth. I understand that this strategy may backfire. Please comment.
Diktuon.net is not listed in Google. Or at least it shouldn’t be: I’ve told Google and the other search engines not to index this site. Other blogs under Diktuon.net may be listed.
Why have I blocked this site appear in the search engines? After all, this is a public site, so anyone can read these blogs. The big question is from where does one land on this site and why.
If you want your site to be found by general public, it’s a good idea to get it listed in the search engines. But if you are looking for a more specific audience – like I am in search of people, who are already contributing to Project Diktuon – then one might want to consider other strategies.
The aim of the project is to tighten the social network of mature Christians, who want to build the Kingdom of God in Europe. As this network already exists, the most natural way to spread the word is not by public announcements inviting to the network, but through the existing social channels – you telling to the people you know.
This strategy has several advantages.
First, it addresses naturally the right kind of people. When you are yourself involved, you know who of the people you know already contribute to project Diktuon, and who don’t quite grasp it yet. And therefore you are able to address the right people.
Second, as this an active approach, it is more likely to penetrate the consciousness of the target group. If you actively and personally invite someone to join the community in which you yourself already are, they are more likely to pay attention and not dismiss it.
Third, as word of this site is spread mainly to people who we already know, it is easy to find people in the network, who already know them and can testify about their hearts.
And finally, people who really don’t grok Project Diktuon are less likely to stumble upon this site. Not only is this site quite useless to them, what I say here may even hurt some sincere Christians, which is not the intention. Some people may want to attack on what is said here on false grounds, which is plain waste of time. (There are of course those, who really know God and need not be taught to know Him by any man and who can give sound biblical criticism – that kind of criticism is more than welcome.)
And ultimately, any visitor, whom this site does not serve, will just waste their own time and the site’s limited server resources. (Currently this iny tiny server is faltering under minimum load…)
Yet, I do not say: don’t link here. Feel free to link. I just ask that you would consider where you place those links. Pages, which tend to attract the right kinds of people are fine. I would have found hardly any of you without that kind of linking. Public directories – well, I chose to skip them.
