Diktuon.net is an Internet based endeavour to serve Project Diktuon.

Diktuon.net Is a Meeting Place Extension

In a sense Diktuon.net is simply an Internet address. And like natural addresses, you can go there – by Internet means. It’s like a clubhouse, where you can meet other people, or find things they have left there, or leave something there yourself.

This address has two special traits.

First, it’s sole purpose for existence is to be an address, where certain kind of people meet. Children of God wanting to know God better and make Him known; wanting learn to know one another and work together; wanting to leave their entire lives and communities to LORD Jesus and be obedient.

Second, it’s not really the meeting place, but a place where we can be in touch even while we are not meeting. Sometimes we may be able to communicate even stronger when not seeing face to face, but there just is no substitute. The purpose of Diktuon.net is to be a place where can look for the times we really meet each other in real life and where we can keep in touch when our paths have for some reason diverted again. Diktuon.net is no substitute to real encounters, but it may extend them, at both ends.

Diktuon.net Is a Community

Because it’s nature as a node of communication, Diktuon.net is not so much defined by what it is, as it is by who there are. Diktuon.net is a place for certain kind of people, and as these people communicate, they form a community.

The common denominator for this community is not Diktuon.net but Project Diktuon. They already belong to same community and Diktuon.net is a sub-community aiming to build that community.

On the other hand, Diktuon.net itself has subcommunities. The social networks in tend to be segmented in countries, for the simple reason that counry border and linguistic borders tend to coincede. Therefore Diktuon.net may host several social networking sites to meet the needs of these various and different communities. . Of course, any member of the Diktuon.net community can belong to more than one of these sites, or even at none of them.

All of the sites have the basic security and privacy settings in place. Only the members of the communities can access the sites and an effort is made to keep all data well secured.

On the other hand Project Diktuon is about building the community in Europe as a totality. Therefore the most important community is the international community, whose site is hosted at Diktuon.eu. This community has in many ways higher standards than many of the others, including striving for very high security and privacy settings.

Diktuon.net Is an Association

This important services must not be trusted to third parties. It is vital, that the members of Diktuon.net have total control over all data and software on the Diktuon.net. This is achieved through a collective ownership of the service.

An administrative contruct to achieve this is an association. Members of the Diktuon.net should belong to an association that owns and runs the services. The members of the association could then have their own divisions, for example by country or by ministry, who could represent their views in the association meetings. Of course, no-ones votes could be counted twice.

This way Diktuon.net is not a company nor has it any clients. It is a collective of its members and runs all the services and has a complete control over all the data. And as it provides these services only to its members, members of the association own and have complete privacy to all their data.

As a member of Diktuon.net you choose where you want to take it. You do with it what you want. It’s yours. The only limitations are technical and the freedom in Christ.

Diktuon.net Is a Technological Platform

Diktuon.net provides services that allow you to see what others have done there or leave your own marks. To use the metaphor, it’s the walls, ceiling, furniture, servants and the kitchen sink at the clubhouse.

Not everyone can afford to build a house. But not everyone needs a house of their own. Diktuon.net is about providing Internet services worth the Kingdom to people willing to build the Kingdom. As it is not very much more complex to provide the same services to 10 000 than it is to 100, co-operating here makes it possible to for small units to use services they could not afford alone.

Some of the basic services include social networking, email and web publishing. But this is just to give it a headstart, so that people would find it usable. In fact Diktuon.net is s generic platform. It’s been designed to be secure, robust, flexible and scalable, capable of hosting several kinds of services.

So, if you want to integrate a podcasting channel to Diktuon.net, feel free. Providing the community with an Enterprice grafe groupware server – fine. Put a profile an icon, which can be used to skype call another member – should be easy. Create a collaborative Bible translation platform? – I can see how it could be done.
